You are asked to come to a minimum of 4 shifts per month. If you need to change your shifts, please do so online. If you are running late (even by a couple of minutes) or need to change or add a shift within 24 hours, please call us at 604-827-4809. You can leave a message any time and we will check it promptly.

Don’t have an account? Current volunteers can click here to register. You may want to watch the tutorial “Getting a volunteer account” (WiFi recommended) to help you start using the software.

We have a host of special volunteer shifts in a variety of places, you’ll learn about them by looking at the different activity types in the “opportunities” tab. Both regular shifts and special events are very important to us – we hope you can help us out with a variety of tasks! If you have no preference for shifts, try to choose those with zero or one volunteer registered.

Remember to carefully check the shift time and date before making your choices. Before closing your browser window when checking your schedule, please double check that you’ve hit save! If you have any issues with Better Impact, feel free to call us at 604-827-4809 or send an email to volunteers@beatymuseum.ubc.ca.

Upcoming Volunteer Training Opportunities

Beaty Biodiversity Museum volunteers help with the vital role of achieving a world where biodiversity is better understood, valued, and protected. To help you reach this goal, we host monthly training sessions on a suite of topics. Both seasoned and new volunteers, along with museum staff, are encouraged to attend. Meet your fellow volunteers, discuss the museum, explore the collections, enhance your skills, and meet other people in the team. Training hours count towards your total volunteer hours.

Remember that all training hours count towards your total hours in the museum. Do you have suggestions or ideas for a volunteer training session? Let us know!

Check out Better Impact under “Opportunities” and “Training” for all of our future training sessions!

Are you interested in writing blog posts for the museum? Volunteer submissions are welcome! If you would like to write a story, email Amy your ideas. Check out our museum tips and tricks (large pdf) before you get started, and use this worksheet (pdf) to help you solidify your ideas. Writing time counts towards your volunteer hours, so keep track!

Self-reflection package: this is very helpful for you to refresh your communication goals, and you are welcome to send one to us to keep on file for you. Download the package by clicking here.

The new edition of the museum manual can be downloaded by clicking here. The last update was September 2017.

Need a reference letter? We’re happy to write you one after you hit 100 volunteer hours. Please email us at volunteers@beatymuseum.ubc.ca to check on your hours, ask about references, or anything else! Please give us at least a week to complete a reference for you.

At every 100 hours, you have reached a new milestone. Check out the latest numbers (June 30, 2017), and ask us for your pins on your next shift. Thank you for all that you do! Download the latest list here (10MB pdf).

When you decide that you no longer wish to volunteer, don’t forget to email us at volunteers@beatymuseum.ubc.ca.
