PME events, March-July, 2020

  • March 1 – 10:00 – 1:00 Nature Club at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum

  • March 11 – 4:00 – 5:00 – Meteorites & Space Mining at UBC’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre (182)
    Come see our table of groovy meteorites & meteor-wrongs outside lecture hall 182 just before Dr. Sara Russell from the Natural History Museum discusses the implications & conditions under which space mining would occur!
  • March 17 – 11:00 – 1:30 Spring Break At the Beaty Biodiversity Museum “Trees Please”
    Learn about all the ways in which ancient trees were super cool!
  • March 25 – 11:00 – 1:30 Spring Break At the Beaty Biodiversity Museum “Coming in From the Cold – Ice Age”
    We will talk about the original paleo-stars – the Ice Age!

Physical distancing

  • May 2 – 17 – Science Odyssey
    Some special programming is planned for sometime during those 2 weeks. Mary Anning Day is already planned, and falls on the final day, so we can count that as part of the celebration! (Mary Anning was one of the most successful fossil collectors of the 1840’s.)
  • May 17 – Mary Anning Day at the Museum of Vancouver.
    – Come to see and touch a wide collection of fossils. Open all day long.
    – In particular, come and attend the matinee panel discussion with some local paleo-women. They’ll share stories from the field, as well as why they “dig” palaeontology!
  • May 28 – 3:00 – 7:00 New Westminster Farmer’s Market.
    This Little PME Goes to Market – New West Edition.
  • June 7 – World Ocean Day at the Museum of Vancouver
    We  will display of some nifty, vintage oceanographic equipment, and a matinee panel discussion with some professional, highly enthusiastic oceanographers! They’ll share stories from the field, and some of their amazing research!
  • July 18 – West End Farmer’s Market
    This Little PME Goes to Market.
