Engage with the Pacific Museum of Earth through a dynamic tour tailored to your group’s interests! A Museum Interpreter will guide a detailed exploration of the PME’s exhibits that will include key facts, museum stories, audience participation, and insights into research at UBC’s Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences department. Groups will also get a chance to interact with displays and touch real museum specimens.

Museum tours can follow different structures depending on your group’s topic of choice. For example…

  • ‘Main Stops’ Focus: On a time crunch? Or maybe just looking for the highlights and best photo opportunities? This tour structure guides groups through the museum’s main stops including George the Lambeosaurus, the Mineral Rainbow, the unique spherical OmniGlobe projection, and more.
  • ‘Palaeontology’ Focus: For all the enthusiasts of ancient life, this tour structure is for you! Take a closer look at the museum’s dinosaurs, touch fossils and learn about their formation, and visit Dorothy the Elasmosaurus, a marine reptile suspended from the Earth Sciences Building’s ceiling.
  • ‘History of Earth’ Focus: Ready to journey through geologic time? This tour structure incorporates our outdoor exhibit, the Wheaton Walk Through Time, alongside other exhibits that highlight key points in Earth’s history going back to its formation such as the Acasta Gneiss, one of the oldest rocks in the world.
  • ‘OmniGlobe’ Focus: Interested in an in-depth visit with the OmniGlobe, our unique spherical projector? The bulk of this tour structure spends time with the OmniGlobe’s 100+ maps and animations, highlighting Earth’s planetary processes- and beyond, to the rest of our galaxy!

Accessibility Notes

Most programs involve some time moving around the museum, which features level flooring and no lips or steps. Many activities take place in our programming room, which adheres to UBC guidelines with an approximate entrance (doorway and door together) width of 32 inches. However, the physical flow of each program is readily adaptable to suit the needs of any particular group so that everyone can participate in a way that works for them. Please include a note in your booking request or email us at pmebookings@eoas.ubc.ca to let us know how we can meet the access needs of your group. More details on accessibility at the museum can be found here.

We understand that some schools and community organisations may be facing socioeconomic barriers to accessing programming at the PME. If the cost of programming is a barrier to you, please reach out to us — we would be happy to work out a reduced rate or payment structure that accommodates your needs. We offer free bookings for Indigenous groups, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit groups, Indigenous community programs and educational initiatives.
